Alex joined Altrad in 2019 on a business administration apprenticeship, working towards a Level 3 qualification in business administration.

I finished college after doing a qualification in business, and so the natural progression was to look at any potential careers or apprenticeships in this field.

I saw about the Altrad apprenticeship and wanted to apply because it described it as a really varied role with different things to do and learn every day. I also liked that the company described about great opportunities for progression and the chance to work with different departments.

My apprenticeship lasted for 18 months, and I stayed in my Executive Services Administrator role, but I also got the chance to work on projects for different teams including training, payroll, and marketing and communications.

I was a bit nervous when I joined Altrad as it felt like a real job and an actual career – but I was very excited to get started!

In 2021, I got the opportunity to progress into a role within the marketing and communications team, and I wanted to do this as I had loved the more creative projects I’d already had the chance to work on – it had sparked my interest!

Would I recommend an apprenticeship at Altrad?

Definitely! I’d say to anyone thinking of applying that they should give it a go. There will be so many aspects you aren’t going to expect, but it’s about taking that chance and seeing where it can lead! I’ve found the team to be so helpful and I couldn’t have asked for much more in terms of support, training, and guidance.

I feel really proud of…

The fact that I’ve now made the progression into a marketing and communications role. It’s shown that I’m valued in the business and I’m enjoying working on creative projects.

Where I see my potential taking me at Altrad…

My long-term goal would be to gain some marketing qualifications and that will also help me to progress in my role. I’d say I made the right decision moving into my current role as I’m really enjoying it – I’ve even been out to different sites to help direct films for the business!

How I’d sum up my apprenticeship…

I’d describe my apprenticeship as full of opportunities
