Uniper UK Limited operate the Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire where fuel oil is stored on site in carbon steel insulated storage tanks for use during unit start up.

In 2016, the integrated site team carried out non-destructive testing inspection and identified significant corrosion under insulation on two of the fuel oil tanks. Our team undertook further inspections and prepared a detailed technical report which provided recommendations to address corrosion under insulation (CUI).
Uniper required an accelerated solution to support the availability of the power plant in advance of the winter demand, whilst also ensuring the integrity of the tank.
