A memorial garden has been opened at our office in Grangemouth, Scotland, in memory of a dear colleague, Siobhain Downie. Siobhain’s parents and niece joined colleagues to officially open the garden on Friday 28th July.

The idea to create a garden to honour Siobhain came from a wish she had whilst litter picking for World Environment Day; Siobhain wanted to plant flowers at the office for bees and other wildlife to flourish. So, when the team was thinking of ideas on how they could remember Siobhain, a memorial garden seemed the obvious choice.

From there, planning quickly started on the garden and how a space could be created based on Siobhain’s vision where people could come together or take five minutes out if needed. The idea, which started out as a few little planters, soon developed into the beautiful space you now see.

A special thanks goes out to all involved; the garden would not have been possible without the efforts of those in the Grangemouth office and the services team, who supplied materials for the benches and planters. We are also thankful to a number of suppliers local to the office who supported us in our endeavours:
Doon Valley Site Support donated the picnic benches and plants, with a number of their employees also building the benches.
Granfab created the sculptural ‘S’, which takes pride of place in the garden.

It was a lovely day for everyone who came together to celebrate Siobhain, and her family extended their warmest thanks and appreciation for all the support.

Let’s start the conversation

Quite simply, a journey at Altrad begins with a desire to create a better tomorrow.
