Altrad’s Steve Ingle, Technical Authority Scaffolding and Temporary Works Compliance in North West England, has been a member of North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes for 7 years as a blood bike rider and new rider assessor.
They started operating in May 2012, and the total number of jobs they have completed now exceeds 120,000, and they have raised approximately £7 million for the NHS Trust. They aim to provide a free, but professional, voluntary service out of normal working hours for the transportation of Urgent and Emergency items such as blood, platelets, samples, donor breast milk, patient notes and theatre equipment solely for the benefit of the publicly funded emergency services and the patients being treated by them.
Steve commented “My motivation, along with other members is to give back to the NHS. Many of our members have either had help from the hospitals personally or within our own families, or we simply want to help. Even in the depths of winter when there are times when a motorcycle would be dangerous, many riders then use their own cars.
There is no better feeling than delivering emergency supplies to a waiting critical care team. We hand it over in the hope that we have made a difference.”
