We are delighted to share that Altrad secured an award at EDF’s Nuclear Performance Awards 2024! The team received the Gold Certificate of Achievement for the Safety Award for jointly producing ‘A Sliding Doors Moment; The Power of Intervention’ in partnership with EDF.

Sliding Doors is a powerful in-house film that highlights the impact of not spotting the dangers. The video was launched during EDF’s Zero Harm Week and Hinkley Point C’s Zero Harm Fortnight, for which the key themes were ‘Dare to Challenge’ and ‘The Power of Intervention’.

‘A Sliding Doors Moment; The Power of Intervention’ is a two-part film jointly produced in-house in a collaboration between Altrad and EDF, who scripted, directed, acted and produced the film that contains a selection of error traps. Split into two parts, the first part tells a story over a couple of days during an outage situation, and the second details interventions that could have changed the outcome direction.

While no events in the video were caused deliberately, there are a number of “Error Traps” that can result in harm either to our people or the plant. It is important for us to recognise these error traps and how they can impact our personal and working lives. You can think of these as holes in the barriers we put up to prevent unwanted events; therefore, these are error traps that could cause our controls to fail, ultimately leading to an accident.

The film’s themes of awareness, reinforcement and empowerment show the importance of intervening and speaking up when we see something that’s not right to avoid serious incidents, and addressing mental health concerns that are at the core of our safety and well-being culture.

Matthew Wooding, Commercial Manager – Nuclear New Build, who performed in the film, spoke of his involvement, adding: “Sliding doors was a great experience to not only learn about safety but also to understand the potential outcomes when procedures are not followed. It also demonstrated to me that the telltale signs should not be overlooked, and it’s always good to ask twice.”

Well done to all involved in producing this powerful film and winning an award at the EDF awards! This is a fantastic achievement that demonstrates our commitment to safety.
