We are proud to shine a spotlight on Paul Garbutt, TMS Maintenance Manager, and Jordan Campbell, Mechanical Estimator, who both work in Teesside, England for our client SABIC. They both volunteered their own time to support Butterwick House hospice to transform the children’s unit remembrance garden.

Butterwick House hospice supports babies, children, teenagers, young adults, and their families. Through the transformation of the remembrance garden, the hospice is able to create a tribute to the memory of loved ones whilst offering families a special place to remember them.

Butterwick House hospice’s Director of Care, Allana Massingham, explained, “When we lose someone who is precious and we struggle to live without, your heart becomes badly broken, and it’s likely you will never completely get over the loss of your child. They will live on forever in your heart, and this remembrance garden is one way to keep precious and cherished memories alive and to, hopefully, provide comfort and a welcoming, safe space for families”.

Prior to the project commencing, the area was unused and in a state of disrepair. Paul and Jordan gave up their time, battling through a lot of rain this summer, to transform the area – including working on the paving area, panelling and moving the chair/decking area. The transformation to date has allowed the hospice to organise the painting of a mural and complete the décor and lighting in readiness for their first remembrance service, which they hope to host in December 2023. The mural will be a bright landscape with a tree in the centre – and families will be given a heart to write their child’s name on – providing families with comfort and support.

Butterwick House hospice have expressed their immense gratitude, commenting that the work Paul and Jordan did was truly amazing and that it is difficult to put into words how much it means to everyone at the hospice.

Amazing work, Paul and Jordan; you have made a monumental difference in the transformation of the remembrance garden for the hospice and local families.
