Clive Kindred, Altrad’s Project Manager at Shell’s Bacton terminal in the UK, faced a critical challenge – when a planned scaffold activity was at risk of not being undertaken due to a lack of engineering support from others. In 2022, the job was halted by Shell as they couldn’t provide the necessary engineering checks, and a third-party engineering estimate was deemed costly and time-consuming.

The scaffold, which is approximately 22 lifts high (44 metres in height) and included a man-riding hoist, required thorough checks to confirm the overall structural integrity of the heater.

In March 2023, Clive acted quickly and initiated a collaboration between Altrad and Altrad Babcock to confirm we had the capability to fulfil the engineering requirements and ensure that the scaffold loadings were compatible with the heater shell. He submitted the Contract Technical Request (CTR) to the client and, to his delight, received prompt instruction to proceed with the engineering checks.

With exceptional teamwork from Matthew Reeve, Allan Sloan, Mahendran Jagedeesan, Colin Murphy, Ian McFarlane and Paul Taylor, the engineering support was efficiently provided. The collaboration was seamless, with the teams working closely together to complete the job.

The successful outcome of this collaboration resulted in Altrad winning work and the scaffold activity was able to proceed as planned, ensuring that the project stayed on schedule.

Let’s start the conversation

Quite simply, a journey at Altrad begins with a desire to create a better tomorrow.
