In the early hours of Sunday, March 14 2021, Altrad made delivery of the final 38 tonne mWave wave energy converter ‘cell module’ for Bombora Wave Power Ltd. This abnormal load was escorted from our fabrication workshop through Pembroke Dock, negotiating traffic lights and telephone wires. Several Altrad people supported the module transportation, and it was completed in under an hour without incident.

Owain Phillips, Bombora senior civil engineer, said “This is a great achievement for Altrad and their highly-skilled workforce.”

The cell module, which was fabricated by Altrad, is the last of four key components of Bombora’s 1.5MW mWave Pembrokeshire Demonstration Project, which is to be installed off the coast of Pembrokeshire later this year.

Wales First Minister, Mark Drakeford, was recently given a virtual tour of the Bombora Assembly Centre, home of the mWave. Following his visit, he said “This shows the manufacturing and resource capabilities of Pembrokeshire at its best.”

This project represents a great example of Altrad using the ingenuity of its people to support the energy transition.

Let’s start the conversation

Quite simply, a journey at Altrad begins with a desire to create a better tomorrow.
