Securing digital access to education for a girls refuge in Nepal

Covid-19 has had a significant effect on everyone, but it has had a pronounced adverse impact on the education of many young girls in Nepal.

Altrad in the Middle East supports a refuge for girls in Kathmandu which is fully funded entirely from the resources of Altrad. Given the current circumstances, these girls have now had to revert to 100% online education due to the restrictions in Nepal.

The Altrad team in the Middle East have provided laptops to assist the girls with their education which they were sharing on a “five to one” basis. Under normal circumstances this would have been manageable however, thanks to the support of our the Altrad UK team, we have now provided additional laptops and resources, which has allowed us to enhance the futures of many vulnerable children.

Steve Connolly, Special Projects, commented, “I’d like to offer a special thanks to Mike Smith and Warren Mayers for their speedy reaction and great support. The donation of these laptops will have a huge impact on the girls, and a positive outlook on their ongoing education and wellbeing.”
