We are proud to shine a spotlight on Paul Casey, a Senior Operations Manager based in Warrington, England, for his exceptional volunteer work at the Whiston Hospital in Merseyside.
Paul, who started volunteering in August 2024, undertakes a range of crucial assistance roles within the hospital, including ‘meet & greet’, pharmacy assistance, companion support, talking and listening to reduce feelings of loneliness, and wheelchair assistance with all ages – the oldest patient being some 94 years young! Paul looks forward to undertaking more roles as he continues to complete further training and gains more knowledge of the hospital and his volunteering role.
Hospital volunteering provides invaluable support to patients and staff, enhances community wellbeing, and offers volunteers a rewarding experience of making a positive impact. Paul spoke of his volunteering experience so far: “I signed up whilst my mum was ill, as I witnessed the need for support firsthand during all the hospital appointments. My mum sadly passed away in the hospital in March 2024, and before this sad event, she was very proud when I told her I had signed up to be a volunteer.
Volunteering allows me to make a positive difference to people’s lives while giving something back to a very worthy service provider – the NHS. I know my mum would be happy to know I now help each week as a volunteer in the local hospital, and whilst there, it gives me time to reflect on the wonderful doctors and nurses who looked after our family in our time of need.”
Amazing work, Paul; your efforts truly make a difference in the lives of patients and staff.
