We talk regularly about safety being everyone’s concern. That means everyone at Altrad is always on the lookout for both their own safety and the safety of everyone around them. One of our team at the Fawley site spotted a potential issue and took swift action to keep them out of the line of fire.
Paula Barton is part of the Altrad Safety Team on Fawley, and takes her job seriously. While making her way onto site she noticed two visitors walking along the road. Concerned for their safety, she went out of her way to suggest using the footpath. The security guard noticed Paula’s swift action and put her forward for the monthly ExxonMobil Safety Award.
ExxonMobil agreed her actions went above and beyond, and she was handed the award, along with £500 to a charity of her choice, which in Paula’s case was Cancer Research UK.
Our continued performance on safety isn’t about being a hero. It doesn’t even have to be at the workface. Keeping everyone safe is the act of constant vigilance, and having the nerve to approach others when they’re putting themselves in harms way, just like Paula did.
