We are proud to recognise our people who supported the creation of Mayfield School’s memorial garden to remember pupils. The garden, in the grounds of Mayfield School in West Cumbria, England, has been opened with a moving ceremony.
The memorial garden is a place for ‘happy reflection’ and will also be used for outdoor lessons by pupils of all ages. Plaques were unveiled for three pupils who have passed away, alongside items that had special meanings for each of them, including dragonflies, Minnie the mouse stepping stones, and Mr. Tumble cushions and bunting. A letterbox has also been placed at the garden’s entrance for students to post their ‘letters to heaven’.
Work on the garden was sponsored and carried out by Altrad, DSD and Mossop. Kieron Rogers, Operations Manager, and Stephen Carruthers, SCP Project Engineer, attended the ceremony, proudly representing Altrad. Kieron Rogers said: “It was an absolute pleasure for Altrad to be part of this project. What I witnessed at the ceremony was nothing but amazing. Seeing the pupils’ faces and how they interacted around the garden was incredible to see and gave them a special place to remember their friends. The reaction from the parents was very emotional, and this made everything worthwhile.”
Sophie McCabe, head teacher at Mayfield, added: “We have created this memorial garden as a tribute to our Mayfield angels. It is wonderful that we are now in a position to share the outcome of the project, and we must thank Altrad, DSD and Mossop who sponsored the garden.”
Well done to all involved in this lovely initiative, which provides the community with a space to remember friends and celebrate their lives.
