Altrad have successfully completed the recertification of three crude tanks (500,000 barrel capacity tanks) at the Flotta Terminal as part of the Crude and Ballast Tank Refurbishment Programme. Altrad are currently working on the refurbishment of a fourth tank which was taken out of service in 2010. The tank subsequently sustained an over-pressurisation incident which resulted in the decision to remove the full roof structure, supporting columns and top tier of the tank on safety grounds.
During the course of these works Altrad were nominated for the Repsol Sinopec, HSE and Integrity Award with the following justification being provided; “Altrad demonstrated outstanding health and safety awareness and compliance. Exemplary levels of supervisory leadership was consistently exhibited at site resulting in high safety performance and working practice in hazardous conditions and primarily performed at height with the use of Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWPS).
Daily team toolbox talks were witnessed by the supervisor who also lead regular team safety meetings to convey any safety messages and allow personnel to raise any safety issues as well as encouraging active participation in iCare and spot-it own it initiatives.
The level of safe working practices is a typical reflection of the professionalism and thoroughness of the Altrad Personnel and Project Team at site and is good demonstration of consistent and accountable leadership and collaborative working.
Altrad Project Manager, Dougie Waugh, stated “It’s a credit to all the men in each of the crews for conducting themselves in a manner which gets us recognised for our safe working practices. It goes without saying we should strive to maintain an approach which continues to get us recognised for the right reasons and where possible improve our safe working ethos.”
